Gameplay
This section is meant to give a brief overview of Stargate Universe gameplay. Since SGU is designed to be unlike any other game, gameplay will differ greatly from anything you've ever experienced before. Our aim with SGU is to make a virtual Stargate universe as realistic as possible.
Some major differrences
To make your experience as realistic as possible, we have eliminated as many "powerlevel" stats as possible. The reasoning behind this is that in real life the amount of damage you could inflict would not depend on how many monsters you had killed, though you would gain strength and experience. The strength part is reflected in the game, while the experience is gained not by the character, but by the player.
Real-time Strategy element
In such a game of armies and fleets, we cannot ignore the RTS element. While SGU is not solely an MMORTS, it can be played as one. There are two styles of gameplay: regular RPG play, where you explore and do battle as a single character, and RTS play, where your character is commander of a realm of NPC's that can be trained into various types of soldiers and spies (you will also be able to recruit other players into various positions in your realm!) to be sent into battle with the commanders of other realms. In SGU we are blending these two modes of play as has never been done before.
Player attributes
We've said that one of our goals is to do away with as many "level" stats as possible. How then will we represent player attributes such as strength and health? Stats that one would, in real life, feel the value of, such as health, are displayed as percentages. Stats such as strength, that are not so readily felt, are not displayed, but are evidenced in the way a character behaves.
